Journal d’un workshop

Du 12 au 17 mars 2011, j’ai été sélectionnée pour participer à un workshop à Las Palmas avec les photographes suédois Anders Petersen et JH. Engstrom. Le workshop, qui a rassemblé 15 photographes d’origines diverses, a été proposé par Insightsprojects, une « aventure familiale » comme ils aiment se définir, qui organise des projets non-commerciaux dans différentes villes européennes.

La singularité de ce workshop a été d’être conduit par deux photographes, ce qui a sûrement rendu l’expérience particulièrement riche pour nous mais plus difficile pour Petersen et Engstrom. Malgré une démarche assez commune, cela n’a pas manqué d’en faire surgir les différences.

Ary et Lorena, les deux organisateurs, nous ont accueillis dans un ancien appartement d’architecture typiquement espagnole, où chaque jour était organisé un repas très convivial pour tout le groupe.

Cette rencontre a été particulièrement riche et stimulante, essentiellement pour deux raisons :

- la possibilité de partager une discussion en profondeur sur la photographie et de cartographier son histoire par un autre point d’entrée,

- l’occasion de confronter mon propre travail en cours à deux personnalités, qui restent pour moi un point de référence dans une certaine démarche photographique.

Depuis que je suis rentrée le rythme semble avoir changé et j’ai la sensation d’avoir quelque chose à conclure sans trop m’attarder.

Day 1

IDENTIFICATION WITH THE SUBJECT

The doubt is always there. You need to learn how to tolerate it. You have to know what you want.

[Leitmotiv five days long.]

Assignment of the day: something you identify with.

Look for yourself wherever you are.

[The only assignment we received. Enough for many years.]

Day 2

WHAT IS ABOUT?

You don’t have to know what is about but it’s good to formulate it.

To forget the pictures you already have to continue.

Time passing is important in the photographic process.

When you will arrive to the end of a project, you will feel changed.

Take your time but don’t wait too long.

Narration? It’s necessary to communicate. There are different levels of narration (JH.)

It seems, Anders wants to say something over it. Finally he doesn’t.

Day 3

THE MOST SPECIFIC IS THE MOST GENERAL. Honesty is a slippery fish.

The images of your life are different that your life.

To fuse what you want and what the camera wants. Never both feet on the situation. One inside and one outside.

To focus to what you feel in your body. Emotions.

BODY LANGUAGE.

Day 4

THE FEVER OF HUMANITY

TO BE: horrible, distinct, sharp, present, focused, cruel, trained, disciplined, dangerous, egoist.

Lonely.

[FREEDOM]

TO LIVE with your pictures.

Day 5

PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT ABOUT REALITY

Day 6

Ary and Lorena have organized an exhibition with the pictures we took in Las Palmas.

I drunk too much red wine and smoked too much. After, long night walk to the seaside with Manos.

My mind was full of thoughts. My pictures were passing over and over again in my brain.

I should forget them.

The wind was blowing strongly. I took pictures. ¬Nobody was there.

I miss it.
